HeadworX releases new books: football poetry and Collected Poems by Michael O'Leary

In May and July, my publishing company HeadworX released two new poetry books: Collected Poems 1981-2016 by Michael O'Leary and Boots: A Selection of Football Poetry 1890-2017.

O'Leary's Collected Poems is a major compilation of his work to date, spanning 35 years of his writing-life, and at 260 pages a considerable editing feat on my part.

Boots is an anthology of football poetry by international contributors, which was first published as a special football issue of my periodical broadsheet. This new edition features new material found in the past four years, including poems by the late Dannie Abse and Alan Ross (renowned UK poets)

It's a real achievement to publish both of these titles.

broadsheet 19 features Peter Bland

The latest issue of my journal broadsheet, no.19, May 2017, features the celebrated poet and actor Peter Bland.

The issue celebrates his contribution to New Zealand and world poetry in English.

It's an honour to be able to feature his work in broadsheet.

Mark Pirie's hip-hop article published

The Summer 2016 issue of Phantom Billsticker's Cafe Reader includes my article on hip-hop with a focus on Aotearoa homegrown hip-hop.

The article is the start of a series of essays I am writing for a longer memoir or book of autobiographical essays.

This essay focuses on my days as dee-jay at Radio Active in Wellington during my student years at Victoria University of Wellington 1993-1995.

It ranges over Aotearoa hip-hop and offers a potted history of its development in New Zealand.

I am very pleased to have my article published in a well-designed/edited and well-read production, which offers historical insights into the New Zealand music scene.

Phantom Billstickers do a great job getting the word out to the streets.

ESAW publishes Mark Pirie's Ride the Tempest

In December, a book of my uncollected early poems 1993-1995 was published by the Earl of Seacliff Art Workshop (ESAW).

ESAW has published a number of my books previously, and this new book is meant as an archival edition for libraries but not for commercial sale in bookshops.
